Cookery Demonstrations Give Food for Thought
Jun 8, 2011
Visitors to Newbury Farmers Market on Sunday 19 June can learn how to save up to £50 off their monthly food shopping bill by making the most of the food they buy. A wide variety of easy recipes using everyday leftovers will be cooked up live throughout the market, and visitors will be invited to sample all the food!
Residents are being given the challenge to ‘Give Food Some Thought’ to help reduce the amount of perfectly good food, and therefore money, wasted every day! This exciting campaign is brought to residents by West Berkshire Council and their recycling and waste contractor, Veolia Environmental Services, who have teamed up with Newbury Farmers Market, in order to kick start their ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ road shows for the summer!
Knowledgeable food waste advisors will be handing out free food portion measuring tools throughout the market and offering guidance on how householders can cut food wastage even further!
Hilary Cole, West Berkshire Executive Councillor for Environment, commented: “We are committed to helping show residents how a little thought can create delicious dinners out of leftover food, and reduce the amount of food thrown away every day.”
Tracey Reilly, General Manager for Veolia in West Berkshire said: “Our ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ campaign aims to encourage residents that by being more aware of the food we throw away and learn to put it to good use instead, we can all see some great money saving benefits in return from our shopping bills.”
