Chipping Norton Farmers' Market celebrates despite the weather
Mar 16, 2010
Chipping Norton's former Mayor Cllr Martin Jarratt and Town Crier Anthony Church joined shoppers on Saturday 20 March to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Chipping Norton's Farmers' Market.
Renowned local chef Nick Pullen from Wild Thyme restaurant barbequed produce from the market to serve up delicious dishes of lamb, sausages, chicken and venison. Caroline Jenkins from Cakes Unlimited baked the magnificent birthday cake, which was shared with shoppers during the event.
Braving the wet weather on Saturday morning, Cllr Martin Jarratt praised the farmers and growers for making the Farmers' Market so successful. "We need more local and personal shopping experiences like this. Chipping Norton is a market town and this is what people come to Chipping Norton for, not big out of town stores."
West Oxfordshire District Council set up Chipping Norton Farmers' Market originally, with Seb Peissel who now runs The Meat Joint stall, as their market manager. "Since TVFMC took over the management five years ago this has developed into one of the best farmers' markets in Oxfordshire with very loyal customers. It's got great potential too; we're always interested to hear from new producers or growers who want to join us here in the Market Place."
